Over the past few decades, Moroccan Berber rugs have become a subject of rising attention and praise. Over the years, numerous internationally famous architects and designers have been attracted to the vibrant, rich colors and distinctive patterns of each rug, introducing them to the western world.

The Atlas Mountains in Morocco are where the Berber carpet first originated. Berber women who live in rural areas of the Atlas Mountains mostly make these beautiful rugs. They pass along weaving traditions from mothers to daughters, including designs that blend abstract and mysterious geometry with Tifinaghe symbols or even universal pictures that reflect scenes from daily life: animal figures, bird drawings, camels, and so on… For these Berber families with a nomadic history, carpet weaving is an essential occupation and one of their primary sources of income.

Moroccan rugs come in a wide range of designs. Their distinctiveness and unique characteristics are a result of Moroccan history. Morocco has served as a center for many historical civilizations, including the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, and Arabs. This mixed background has had a significant impact on Moroccan culture and given rise to distinguish Berber rug qualities.

These beauties were weaved to be used as blankets, to cover the floor and to keep the users 's feet warm, to shield one from snowfall, and to keep warm during freezing winter nights. Additionally, Berbers from the Sahara Desert created their own lighter and thinner variations of these carpets that were better suited to the hot arid climate in desert. Its manufacture follows highly specific rules and in some regions of Morocco, wool is revered as a wonderful gift that wards off evil. As a delicate substance, wool must therefore be handled with the highest regard and care.

There are many different Moroccan Berber carpet designs to select from; therefore, it is critical to understand the important Moroccan Berber rug classifications. It is essential to remember that this is not a complete list. We must keep in mind that, the deeper we go into Morocco's ancient rug-making culture, the more there is to learn.

The main distinctions among Moroccan Berber rug categories are based on the method of weaving, the area, or the tribe that made the carpet. This categorization is flexible. As more artists seek to popular trends for inspiration, many characteristics of one or the other area may migrate and be included into rug styles. While there are some purists who like original, unaltered designs, also more and more people prefer fresh versions. You can group these carpets under seven major categories to condense the classification of Berber rugs, including:
